The Chandigarh Administration will soon come up with a calendar of activities to promote a healthy lifestyle among the city residents.
The calendar will also list the dates of various cultural events to be organised for entertaining the residents, said Vijay Kumar Dev, Adviser to the UT Administrator, after flagging off a nature and wildlife trek in Nepli near here today.
The event was organised by the UT Forest and Wildlife Department to celebrate World Forestry Day. Over 300 people, including school students, took part in the 7.5-km trek that culminated at Kansal Log Hut after passing through a maximum height of 1,500 feet.
Dev called upon all stakeholders to plant more trees and make the Greening Chandigarh Action Plan 2015-16, which he released on the occasion, a grand success.
The action plan is a guiding tool for all the concerned agencies of the UT to adopt effective strategies for making the City Beautiful more clean and green.
The Adviser also released a Hindi booklet, “Bikhre Moti”, written by Usha Garg, a lecturer at Government Senior Secondary School, Kaimbwala, and distributed the Best Eco-Club Award for 2014 to those who had done commendable work in the field of environment conservation.
The Conservator of Forest, in a press release, stated that a target of planting 2,05,000 saplings has been fixed for the current year. The Forest Department will plant 60,000 saplings, horticulture wing of the Municipal Corporation will plant 45,500 saplings and the horticulture wing of the UT Engineering Department will contribute with 19,500 saplings.
Besides this, around 80,000 saplings will be planted by schools, colleges, resident welfare associations, market associations, NGOs and other government organisations.
UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev called upon all stakeholders to plant more trees and make the Greening Chandigarh Action Plan 2015-16, which he released during a trek organised by the UT Forest and Wildlife Department, a success.
